Nigel in the Peak Rail Shop at Matlock Station:

"Peak Lines" is the mail order arm of the Peak Rail Shop based at Matlock Station

For over 25 years the Peak Rail Shop has traded in the 150 year old BR Station building at Matlock.  In the early days the shop only opened at weekends but as Peak Rail developed and started operating from Matlock Riverside to Rowsley, the role of the shop began to change dramatically and also became the Company's Registered Office.  Trade gradually increased in the early 1990's and the shop started to open every day, manned by a mixture of part-time paid staff and volunteers.  Turnover climbed and a major reason for this was the introduction of stock owned by Ted Hancock and Bill Hudson, both recognised experts in the railway and transport book field.  The shop has over 4000 titles, new and good quality used books, and a large variety of railway magazines and photographs.

The success of the shop is based not only on the quality of railway books but also on the variety of stock we can offer our visitors.  We cater for the tourist, providing local information books, maps, walking books and Kendal Mintcake to keep up the energy levels!  We also stock gifts for the children, including "Thomas the Tank" items and Peak Rail souvenir pens, pencils, bookmarks, fridge magnets and much more.  We have a large selection of greetings cards (which includes transport theme and Derbyshire scenes) and postcards (including Peak Rail and the Peak District).  Our comprehensive stock of Videos and DVD's is frequently updated with the latest editions.  We are also fortunate in having a good collection of Railwayana items, especially Graham Parmley's wagon plates, lovingly restored and researched by Graham.

We hope you will be able to visit us at Matlock and enjoy looking around before taking a trip on the Steam Railway.  However, if you are not able to visit the shop please use our Mail Order facility.
