Family Rock Climbing and Abseiling Experience Course Content
Every family who comes on our beginner rock climbing course is different. We tailor the session to you and will structure it so that everyone gets an appropriate challenge based on age, fitness levels and goals. We will always speak to you before the day to find out more about your family so that we can plan the best adventure day for you. You can choose half day or full day of climbing or mix and match from our different activities where you climb in the morning and abseil of a 90 foot bridge in the afternoon. Due to popular demand we have also added Weaselling (aka kids favourite activity) as an add on to your experience. (You will have the option to add this when you book)

We can’t always guarantee amazing weather, but we can always provide great views and stunning locations!
Top-of-the-range safety equipment is provided
Location - We are spoiled for choice with venues as there is a wide variety of different options. We will choose the best place based on your experience, your location and the weather. There are venues available close to Hathersage, Bakewell, Matlock and Stoney Middleton. You can see some of our favourite venues below.
Dogs are welcome :) Please just let us know in advance if you are bringing your 4 legged family member as we will choose the venue accordingly.

This is a private group session. The cost includes up to 6 people. The cost for each additional person is £55 for Half Day and £80 for Full Day bookings. We allow bookings for the next day up until 5 pm. If your booking is for over 8 people, please book at least 48 hours advance. If you would like to book within 48 hours please give us a ring first.
For any children under 18 climbing, their parent or legal guardian has to be present due to licensing. The parent or legal guardian doesn’t have to climb but just be at the experience.
Which course duration is right for you?

Half day is a great introduction to rock climbing. We will have a go at climbing and abseiling, explore the area and learn some new skills.
If there are small children in the group or if this is your first time rock climbing ever, usually we find that Half Day is the perfect amount of time.

Full Day (6 hours) is jam packed with lots of climbing, abseiling and learning new skills.
If your kids are generally quite active and already have done some climbing or they love playing sports and doing outdoor activities, then we find that Full Day is a great option.

You can now do 2 activities in one day! This option is great if you and your family love to have adventures and can easily spend the whole day exploring. You can read more about what is arguably the best abseil in the Peak District here.

Wondering what weaselling is? You can read more about it here.
You can now add weaselling on top of your Half or Full Day if you would like to not eat into your climbing time. When you go through booking, you will have an option to add weaselling. This will add about 40 minutes to the session and will involve a short drive. We will do this at the end of the climbing session. The cost is £50 for the whole group.

We will get in touch with you within 24 hours and find out a bit about your group and we will chat about location and any other logistics for the day. We will send you a disclaimer that everyone in the group needs to fill prior to the session. Once we have that done, there is nothing but to look forward to the day!

We provide all of the safety equipment including climbing shoes. If you have your own you are welcome to use that instead.

Being based in the UK, we are usually prepared for all weather! That means we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothing as well as sun cream :) Please als bring snacks, lunch and water.

If you have booked a session for the next day, we will get back to you as soon as we have access to emails. We are often working in the day out at the crag and sometimes there are a few hours in between responding to emails. If a slot is available and you booked the session, it’s on and we will get information over to you as soon as we can.
Our booking system online closes 24 hours prior to the start time. If you would like a last minute booking within 24 hours please give us a ring and we will be happy to help if we can.

We meet at the location car park to maximise climbing time. We generally start our morning courses at 9 am on the weekend and 9 or 10 am in the week.

We conduct our sessions rain or shine! We will only cancel our courses if there are severe weather warnings. We know the area well and will find the most suitable place and adapt and change the activity if the weather is not quite optimal to ensure your best experience and reducing our impact on the environment. The staff who deliver your courses are highly qualified and experienced guides for many of whom this is their full time job. We recognise that the weather is the one thing that is out of our control and we will always be as flexible as we can to work with you whilst making sure that our jobs are sustainable. Best Family Friendly Locations for Rock Climbing and Abseiling in the Peak District
The Peak District is conveniently located close to Sheffield, Manchester, Derby, Leeds or Nottingham with only a 2.5 hour drive from London.
What makes a good Family Friendly Rock Climbing and Abseiling Venue in the Peak District?
Firstly, all of our locations are also some of the top places to visit in the Peak District! We love a good view and think that combining beautiful landscapes with adventure makes the day even more memorable.
We have tried and tested many locations but our favourite venues that we use for Family Day Out in the Peak District have either shorter walk to get to the climbing venue, beginner friendly routes with a lot of holds or fun things to explore such as the Robin Hoods Cave at Stanage Edge.

Stanage Edge
Rock Climbing at Stanage Edge should definitely be on your list of top best things to do in Derbyshire! We love to run our Peak District Family Rock Climbing Days at Stanage because it has the some of the best views in Derbyshire with hundreds of climbing routes and is also home to Robin Hoods Cave where we always like to finish our session. The walk is about 10 minutes up the hill to get to the climbing area but the views will be worth the effort! It has a lot of parking so generally we can run the experience here at any point. Stanage Edge is one of the Peak District’s main attraction and is our personal favourite.

Burbage Rocks
Burbage Rocks is a fantastic venue for Peak District Family Days Out as the walk is around 5 minutes. The routes are fairly short so they feel friendly for beginners. It has beautiful views of Higger Tor and Burbage Edge and can easily be combined with our weaselling session at Higger Tor. Located conveniently a few minutes drive from Hathersage, this is a great venue that can be accessed from the whole of the Peak District.

The Roaches
The Roaches are definitely a great place to visit in the Peak District if you would like great views, stunning rock formation and excellent climbing. We use the Roaches as it has climbing as well as weaselling making it a great Full Day Family Day Out Activity. We would say that it is better for children age 8+. The Roaches is home to Don Whillans Memorial Hut which looks like it is built in the rocks!

Windgather Rocks
Windgather Rocks is one of the most popular destination for the Derbyshire/Cheshire area. The walk is less than 5 minutes and the general feel of the place is friendly with routes suitable for young children making it a great Rock Climbing and Abseiling Family Day in the Peak District. The parking is limited so we don’t tend to use this venue during Bank Holidays or busy weekends and generally start at 9 am to beat the crowds!

Harborough Rocks
Harborough Rocks is conveniently located near Bakewell and Matlock making it a good choice if you are staying in the area. It is a small friendly venue with limestone features, even just a walk around Harboro Rocks and seeing the cave which dates back to Stone Age will give a nice family day out. Just like with Windgather Rocks, we tend to not use this this area during busy Bank Holidays as parking is limited and it is a popular choice for both climbers and walkers.

Higger Tor
Higger Tor is THE place to run our Weaselling session from. It has tons of rock formation where kids can explore, squeeze through the gaps and finish with an exploration of the ‘‘Iron Cross’’ . This fun family activity in the Peak District can also be combined with Rock Climbing Family Experience at Burbage.
